Measuring real activity using a weekly economic index

چکیده

This paper describes a weekly economic index (WEI) developed to track the rapid developments associated with onset of and policy response novel coronavirus in United States. The WEI is composite real activity, eight 10 series available Thursday after end reference week. In addition being activity index, has strong predictive power for output measures provided an accurate nowcast current-quarter GDP growth first half 2020, weaker performance second half. We document how responded key events data releases during months pandemic.
